This part of the garden represents the greatest area and is notable for its octagonal layout. It was substantially shaped in the middle of the 20th century on the site of the old vegetable garden of the Alcázar. The lower gardens can be reached from the castle by going down several sets of brick steps before passing a series of ponds. This space contains a stone fountain which channels the water to a set of troughs. These serve as a watering reservoir for these western gardens.
Along this route we can find archeological remains including column shafts, capitals and statues. One aspect of special interest is the space for the two layout of the pools with water jets, vividly coloured flower parterres on both sides and orange trees arranged along the perimeter, and the line of cypresses. This garden offers a reinterpretation of the Hispanic-Arab classical model.
