Bas-relief of the Queens Audiodescription.

 Bas-relief of the Queens

This sculpture, located in a side of the Moorish Courtyard was carried out by the Canarian sculptor Facundo Fierro —one of the most representative Canarian artists.
He was a multi-faceted painter and sculptor. He started working in town planning until the 1970s when he decided to start painting. His art covers different plastic art representations such as paintings, engravings, design, architecture as well as his treatment of the environment.
The sculpture is framed with typical Guanche (ancient inhabitants who lived in the islands before the Castillan conquest) designs typical of the ancient culture of the Canary Islands. This work is a reference to the period of two years in which the Queen of the Canary Islands lived in Córdoba —under the protection of Isabel the Catholic— while her husband was negotiating peace in the Canary Islands.
This sculpture displays two slim young women facing the viewer with a slight inclination in their bodies and their heads turned inwards. The woman on the right appears naked with her wavy hair tied low. The woman on the left is wearing a chiffon dress which allows her figure to be seen and has her hair tied back. The central space between the two women contains a block with two hand imprints. Above the figures appears an inscription. Symbols of the guanche people can be seen and another inscription appears lower down.
