This area fortified with walls with two ashlar-work faces, boast two elements: the fortress and the gardens. There are two access points: one to the fortress through the North Lions’ Tower, and another one through the riverbank close to the gardens.
The Alcazar of the Christian Kings comprises four walls with a tower in each of the corners. There are different levels inside the building: the first one houses two courtyards, the Moorish Courtyard and the Women’s Courtyard. Both areas are the result of the construction carried out in the days of the Spanish Inquisition. At the same level, there is the access to the main staircase and a connection passageway between the Alcazar and the Royal Stables. The next level houses the Hall of Mosaics and the top of the main staircase.
The Moorish Courtyard gives access to the gardens. The gardens are made up of three flowerbeds. The gardens house a great variety of vegetation, several pools and fountains, as well as the Promenade of the Kings, where there are several sculptures representing different monarchs, among them the Christian Kings.
