The inscriptions in the inner walls of the Lions’ Tower suggest that it was used as a confinement cell while the building was the seat of the Spanish Inquisition. They are a memory of the prisoners awaiting trial. The prisoners tried to show their Catholic orthodoxy using these inscriptions in the hope of earning the court’s mercy. The symbols of the faith and Eucharist are the most interesting inscriptions in the walls of the tower.
