Tower of the Pigeon

The Tower of the Pigeon, also called the Tower of the Candle, is located at the south-east end. It was demolished in the middle of the 19th century. There are some engravings which suggest that it had a rectangular plan. However, other studies indicate that its plan may have been circular, on the basis of the existing remains. The current tower is a reconstruction dating from the second half of the past century, but is not true to the original.

The remains of another tower can also be found outside the Alcazar, the so-called Tower of the Water or of the Earthquakes. It was surrounded by buildings which were later demolished. This tower might have been used in the defence of the castle or as a water supply tower.
