This enclave was first mentioned in records dating back to the Roman period. Julius Caesar visited Córdoba twice and it was during this time that Caesar himself planted different floral species and exotic trees, among them, the platanus orientalis —oriental banana tree— known as Linnaeus.
Although the exact location of this tree is unknown, the tree appears next to the epigram of Martial in the garden. Today, this green, large-leaved species is a common sight in Córdoba.
