Tower of the Inquisition (1 of 2)

The Tower of the Inquisition, also known as Tower of the Gardens, located in the south-west end of the complex has a circular plan and was built after the other tower of the Alcazar during the reign of Henry IV in the 15th Century and was constructed on the foundations of another tower with a different floor-plan.

The tower has stretcher and header bond brickwork. It is crowned by an upper prismatic and an octagonal brick section. The inside is separated into three different rooms, all of them covered by semicircular brick dome. This tower housed the archive of the Spanish Inquisition for centuries, storing a huge collection of extremely valuable papers.
