During Antonio Cruz Conde’s tenure as mayor, between 1951 and 1962, ownership of the Alcazar was passed to the city council. The mayor commissioned the restoration of the palace to the architect Víctor Escribano.
The current gardens were planned by Antonio Muñoz y Ramírez de Verger, in collaboration with the mayor, Antonio Cruz Conde, towards the end of the 1950s. The lakes situated around the walls were built at the end of the past century. Nowadays they are supplied with the water they need through the original Arabic piping. The lakes were integrated into the gardens after the demolition of Tomás Conde’s palace. Conde was mayor of Cordoba from 1875 to 1877.
Currently, visitors can enjoy special afternoons in the gardens with a sound and light show called “the lights of the cultures”, which tells the history of Cordoba through different projections.
